The beautiful panoramas whet in You the appetite for Crete!
You will enjoy the cafes and taverns in the wonderful smaller resorts
...and experience Manolis' mandolin...
When submerging in the streets of historical cities and villages you get to breathe the air of old Crete.
There is history everywhere.
Hardly an island is so replete with history as Crete. Minoan palaces, Byzantine churches and Venetian castles inspire to discovery as much as ancient cultural sites and caves.
Night clubs, Jazz clubs etc. are mostly located in bigger cities. But there are taverns and folklore restaurants and bars in the smaller resorts, as well.
Inspiring hikes lead to secluded villages, monasteries or through rocky gorges. You hike through abundant flora in the North and through stingy mountains in the South.
Wind-twisted trees, beaches that resemble paradise and rock formations that could be erected by Titans. There is everything on Crete.

The monastery is also often called Piso Monastri (back monastery), the old abandoned one, however, Kato Monasteri (the lower monastery).
This site is probably over 1000 years old, the buildings, however much younger.
Its abbot Melchizedek Tsouderos was the co-founder of the liberation movement in 1821.
In 1866, as the base for the uprising, the monastery was destroyed
It also played a rather significant role in the 2nd world war.
After the occupation by the German troups the monchs of the monastery helped many English, Australian & New Zealand's men to escape to Egypt.
